Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered... Matthew 10:29-31
The question comes up frequently from the teams -- "Wouldn't it be better for us to send the money we spent to come here?" Makes sense, right? The travel/living expense of all the team members is a significant number. But, in truth, the answer is "No!" Money is important and we always have more ministry than money but the value of presence is priceless. I often remember when a hut full of impoverished women in our CAP program who received an emergency shipment of food from the ATL churches expressed astonishment that people in the US knew they existed and even more amazement that we care about them. The food they received was critical for their physical survival. Being known and loved by people in the US in the name of Christ was critical for their spiritual survival. Yes, my brothers and sisters, presence is all about the number of hairs on your head...
Jesus tells us that He counts all the hairs on your head. (For those of you who are hair challenged, not to worry! He counts the hairs that were on your head!) All this means is that you, yourself, are very important to the Lord. He knows and loves every little part of you. The best part about this is that then He uses you and me to do the counting for others! Every smile, every hug, every wheelbarrow full of concrete, every futbol game, every hand laid on in prayer makes the love of Christ real to our people here. Nothing you do is insignificant. Mother Teresa said, "I believe in person to person, every person is Christ for me, and since there is only one Jesus, that person is the one person in the world at that moment." To continue her thought, "and you are Jesus at that moment for that person."
